Blood of the Lamb
Playwright Arlene Hutton calls Blood of the Lamb a Kafkaesque exploration of bodily autonomy, power, and survival inside a rapidly shifting legal landscape. Set in post-Roe v. Wade America, the play follows Nessa, whose cross-country flight is unexpectedly diverted to Texas, where she finds herself detained with Val, a court-appointed attorney assigned to represent the interests of her unborn child. What begins as confusion quickly escalates into a tense and deeply human confrontation between personal crisis and institutional control. This emotionally demanding two-hander requires two exceptionally strong actors capable of sustained psychological realism, emotional precision, and nuanced, subtext-driven work. Minimal theatrical machinery. Maximum acting rigor. The production depends almost entirely on the strength, intelligence, vulnerability, and emotional truth of its performances.
